From a recent short essay about Will’s practice:

”For Yackulic and his partner, the pandemic and the birth of a daughter had radically reoriented time. A studio practice outside the home swallowing endless amounts of time was out of the question, replaced with what could be accomplished in a domestic space. It turns out that for years between making his physically demanding and time-consuming work, he’d occasionally allowed himself to create loose little paintings from life. And in his new situation, it was exactly this sort of work that he turned to.

He sent us some images over the phone but these did little justice (do they ever?) to the work in person. We visited his home and he began to show us painting after painting: small oil-on-panel works depicting images captured in his phone from travels, from the neighborhood. These are immediate, fresh gems, many made in a single sitting: an evening of family time and eating dinner and putting his daughter to bed would be followed by a few hours in a small office/studio or at the kitchen table.”
